Christopher Caraway didn’t start out as a banker, but he got here as quick as he could. “I like to call it divine intervention,” he said. “At the end of 2014, I was changing my career path and spoke to several people about what my next step would be. My main focus was to be in a position to serve people in the community where I live. I saw in Commercial Bank a place where I could grow, both professionally and personally, and use my 21 years of building relationships to give me the opportunity to serve the people of Angelina County. I started with CBTx in February 2015 and it has been a great experience.”
Caraway’s work ethic comes naturally. He grew up in DeLeon, where his family owns a feed manufacturing company founded by his great grandfather. He attended Texas A&M, where he was in the Corps of Cadets and the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band. After graduation, he spent more than four years as an Army infantry officer before he was recruited by Pfizer, where he worked for 21 years. “I’ve been blessed to have the opportunity to work for and with some great people whose focus was on developing leaders at all levels of organizations,” he said. “I believe the leadership skills I developed through Texas A&M and the army, as well as the relationship-building I learned through Pfizer, enable me to excel here at CBTx.”
Caraway earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Economics/Agriculture Business in 1988. He is a Sunday school teacher and Worship Team member at First United Methodist Church in Lufkin. He is a member of the Lions Club and the Angelina County United Way and serves on the boards for J.D.’s Center of Hope and the Angelina County Senior Citizen’s Center.
Chris and his wife, Anita, have two children, Cole and Corinne. He enjoys Aggie sports and spending time with his family.
